Shipbuilding is on the rise in South America as a result of some announcements made by the Venezuelan president and positive indications by BrazilEs oil company Petrobra. President ChavezEs visit to ArgentinaEs shipyard and an announcement later stating that five old tankers would be repaired in the Argentina yard has been welcomed has been welcomed. Replacement of old and small vessels of the Brazilian fleet with new ones shall improve Brazilian turnover drastically.

Ship repair companies planning to expand facilities may choose among three types of docking systems. A graving dock provides a good working area for largest ships because adjacent land can be used for workshops and storage areas. The floating dock offers flexibility and mobility. It is quickly installed and is perfect on areas with poor ground conditions. Finally, the shiplift, with its transfer system, is recommended for smaller facilities.

Milford Haven site shows potential
