Perceptions of preventability among acutely injured Hispanic patients
Article Abstract:
Acutely injured Hispanic patients' perceptions of preventability show their attitudes to be unrelated to degrees of acculturation. Findings reveal that majority of the injured patients felt that their injuries were preventable, and a large percentage believed that their own behavior was responsible for the injury. Male patients and victims of unintentional injuries regarded their injuries as unavoidable. People from high income groups and students with higher socioeconomic status held external causes responsible for the injury.

Unintentional injuries: attribution, perceived preventability, and social norms
Article Abstract:
Safety experts, senior executives and unskilled workers were interviewed to find out their views on the causes and prevention of unintentional home injuries. Results show that subjects considered inappropriate behavior as the main cause of unintentional injuries at home and they perceived systematic preventive measures as irrelevant. Thus, effective home injury prevention program should focus more on the risks present in the environment which could lead to injury rather than emphasize appropriate behavior.
