Poachers pilloried
Article Abstract:
Speaker John Adams, managing director of Teekay Marine Services, commented on shipping companies' development strategies in a recent International Shipping Federation conference. He said that poaching is not the answer, but one delegate said that a certain amount of poaching is needed as the recruitment pool of seafarers is becoming smaller. Adams mentioned that companies should provide seafarers with better offers on wages and job security, although it may be difficult for smaller companies competing against bigger ones.
