Airbag leveler provides safety at the dock
Article Abstract:
W.R. Grace & Company of Fallsington, PA, picked Kelley Dock Systems' FX docklevelers when it decided to upgrade its loading bays and implement its new safety protocols. The company, whose loading docks serve as many as six trailers daily, decided against installing a hydraulic leveler due to concerns regarding cleanliness. Lift truck operators' also revealed their need of a system that could reduce the possibility of back strain associated with mechanical docklevelers. W.R. Grace decided on the FX docklevelers due its low-maintenance requirement, durability and easy operability.

The future of fieldbuses
Article Abstract:
Fieldbuses designs of the future are expected to be Ethernet-compatible, a development that is being spurred by Ethernet's link to the Internet. Fieldbus nodes, 537,000 of which were installed in 1997, are expected to grow by about 38% every year and reach 2.7 million by the year 2002, according to data from the recent ODVA meeting. The popularity of the Ethernet protocols in material handling operations, which has caused ODVA participants to pursue the development of compatible fieldbuses, is expected to hasten the creation of interoperable devices.
