Sales increase despite high costs
Article Abstract:
Germany's marine equipment makers generated DM15 billion (US$10.07 billion) from supplying equipment to the shipbuilding industry in 1995. Sales remain dominated by products from giant engine manufacturers despite price competition from foreign manufacturers. Krupp MaK reported a 26% increase in orders from 1993-1995 valued from DM43.4 million to DM547 million. Krupp credits its success to its focus on engine production.

For growth look east
Article Abstract:
Danish marine equipment manufacturers concede that the country's shipyards are presently full and that they do not expect any marked growth in the newbuilding market. They believe that domestic growth will mainly be in retrofits and repairs. They are also optimistic about the potential of overseas markets such as South Korea, Japan and China, although market-entry problems are common.
