Predicting active and effective agents for safety: test of the actively caring approach
Article Abstract:
A test of the Actively Caring approach as a mechanism for recruiting successful intervention agents for community safety programs revealed that it was not as useful as some individual psychosocial and demographic variables in predicting active and effective agent behaviors. The approach believes that self-esteem, belongingness, empowerment, extroversion and reactance constructs predict willingness to help. A study involving urban college students who motivated 278 households to make fire-safety commitments yielded evidence that college students may be useful resources for the promotion of safety behaviors.
