Measuring perceptions of workplace safety: development and validation of the Work Safety Scale

Article Abstract:

Five factorially distinct constructs are measured by the Work Safety Scale (WSS), namely, job safety, coworker safety, supervisor safety, management safety practices and satisfaction with the safety program. This was gleaned from results of the development and validation of the WSS, a 50-item test that assesses employees' perceptions of safety on the job. Among the subscales, supervisor safety and management safety practices were found to be the best predictors of accidents, job satisfaction and safety behavior compliance.
