Seeking software safety solutions
Article Abstract:
The stru-safety solutions software has been developed by China for use in bulk carriers. Specifically, the China Classification Society developed the program to provide solutions to structural design problems involving the hull and strength analysis problems. The China Classification Stru-Safety (CCSS) programs has a finite element modeling tool which greatly improves working efficiency. In addition, the CCSS packs six functions in a single system. Other features include a file management center and the use of smart management methods.

Looking at twins
Article Abstract:
Further studies should be conducted to prove that the redundant ship concept proposed by the Redundant Ship Machinery Consortium (RSMC) is feasible. Essentially, redundant ships are vessels with duplicate propulsion equipment and related systems. The RMSC has long argued that several accidents could have been avoided had the ships involved featured redundant machinery. The organization, however, has yet to explain how to solve the cost, maintenance and operational issues the concept entails.

Software integrates systems
Article Abstract:
Spain's Senermar is one of the world's leading vendors of CAD/CAM software for marine building applications. The company's proprietary Foran software has enjoyed a solid reputation for over 30 years, and approximately 95% of Spain's small- to medium-scale shipyards use the program. Foran version 30, which was introduced in the market in 1993, is currently in use in France, Germany, Russia, Poland, India and Indonesia.
