The bunker debate heats up
Article Abstract:
Shipowners and bunker suppliers are immersed in another dispute regarding how much additives will fuel oil tolerate. Lloyds Register's Fuel Oil Bunker Analysis and Advisory service wants the adoption of prudent and reasonable procedures if automotive lubricating oil additives are detected. Meanwhile, Det Norske Veritas Petroleum Services, a major player in the bunker testing market, believes that there is no substantial effect on fuel performance if small amounts of used lubricants in marine fuels are present.

Sensing the need for developing an international standard for fuel separation performance, Germany based Westfalia Separator Mineraloil Systems will soon participate in the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) workshop. The need for creating the standard and the outcome of the workshop are detailed.
