The less the sulphur, the more the problems
Article Abstract:
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has limited the sulphur level from the gases emitted by marine fuels from ships at a maximum limit of 4.5% and in areas like Baltic Sea, the English Channel and the North Sea the limit is set at 1.5%. It is stated that it is difficult to produce a heavy fuel that has 0.2% sulphur and that the only alternative to reduce pollution is to use exhaust gas scrubbers that emit carcinogenic, which if less than 10 microns in size, can be inhaled into human lungs.
