European shipbuilding is headed in the right direction as the shipyards expand their work limits to make top quality special purpose ships along with standard ships. This shall have a long-term favorable impact on the market and employment and strengthen Europe holding in the global market. European shipbuilding can also expect more support from EU in the future and promotion of R&D.

Although Dutch shipyards are facing reduced orders, there are some specialty areas that are thriving. F or example, build ers of large luxurious yachts are boosting capacity to meet increased de mand. Another growth area is larger suction dredgers.
