Gambling gets review at last

Article Abstract:

The UK government has outlined plans yo establish an independent review body to examine a new regulatory structure for the gambling industry. The Gambling Review Body will comprise representatives from law enforcement, business, psychology and law. The UK Home Office accepts that the 30-year old laws on gambling need an overhaul but says that the economic and social impact must be carefully assessed.

The future of the amusement industry will be affected by European Monetary Union (EMU) and gambling legislation. Gambling laws are bound to change whether the United Kingdom enters EMU or not. Prize money schemes and payment methods may change as a direct result of industry deregulation. Internet gambling regulations can only evolve through international cooperation.

A game of chance

Article Abstract:

The UK Gambling Review Body is due to present its findings in Jun 2001. Many casinos are hoping that around-the-clock opening will be permitted, along with live entertainment and unrestricted slot machines. Casinos are facing competition from online gambling, but remain in a strong position.
