The average pay rise for a chief executive in the UK leisure industry in 1998 to 1999 was 12.6%, from 15.1% in 1997 to 1998, according to the 1999 Annual Remuneration Survey of the Leisure Industry. The average salary rise for directors in 1998 to 1999 was 10.7%, from 6.6% the previous year. Bonuses were offered by 87% of the companies surveyed, but 25% of companies offered bonuses only to managing directors and directors. The average bonus for chief executives was 23%, while directors received 24.3% and managers 9.9%.

Directors in the leisure industry have enjoyed a 5% increase in salaries in 1996, compared to 3.5% in 1995, according to the Annual Remuneration Survey of the Leisure Industry. Manager salaries in the same industry rose 5.35%, compared to 3.8% in 1995. Improved salary increases are attributed to improved performance within the leisure industry, including increased turnover and occupancy levels.

Salary sacrifice

Article Abstract:

An annual review has revealed that an average employee's salary is 4.83% of the basic salary of the managing director in 20 of the top leisure companies in the United Kingdom. The remuneration of directors and front line staff is discussed.
