UK political parties agree on the social and economic importance of leisure provision but recommend different strategies. For example, the Conservative Party advocates private sector finance whereas the Labour Party believes the state should take responsibility. However, the Conservatives endorse state responsibility for arts provision. Labour recommends financing arts through a national lottery, local authority grants and business expansion schemes.
