Skoulas aims for new Greek holiday culture: holidays in Greece will never be the same again if Nick Skoulas has his way
Article Abstract:
Nick Skoulas is secretary-general of Greece's National Tourist Organisation, and he plans to improve the destination's tourist industry and improve its image. He is calling for major investment in tourism infrastructure and wants the industry to focus on quality, to satisfy the demands of more discerning and demanding groups. However traditional aspects of the country such as islands and beaches will not be neglected. Some DR88 billion will be invested during 1997-98 to improve airports, hotels and marinas.

Greece takes ferry safety on board as demand rises
Article Abstract:
By reducing the number of passengers and the quantity of tickets sold the authorities in Greece hope to improve safety on ferries. New ferries and hydrofoils have been purchased to help cope with the peaks in demand at certain periods during the summer. The price of a hydrofoil ticket is Dr7,500 compared to Dr3,650 for the ferry, although the journey takes twice as long on a ferry. Problems still exist in the administration of bookings particularly by telephone.
