Speaking out for European tourism

Article Abstract:

The tourist industry is almost completely ignored in European politics, according to Edward McMillan-Scott, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for North Yorkshire. He has been involved in a number of programmes designed to boost the power of the industry, but still feels that tourism has been very ineffectively represented in Europe. It is now time to seriously consider the best way forward for European tourism.

US$100 million Eu plan for tourism. (Inside Europe)

Article Abstract:

The European Commission may provide about $100 million for European tourism up to the year 2000, centering on technology, training and promotion. It would particularly promote Europe as a destination in major markets including Japan, and the US. Eurpean tourism products and services would be created and ideas such as quality labels, charter schemes and customer satisfaction indices could be established.

Inside Europe: EU on a white knuckle ride

Article Abstract:

European Commissioner for Tourism, Christos Papoutsis, believes that tourism can contribute towards co-operation, progress and peace. However trade association representatives are sceptical about the value of the commissioner's words, as they prepared for a meeting of the European Commission's advisory committee on tourism. The main issue at the meeting was the Commission's Green Paper on Tourism.
