Lever Action Wheelchair
Article Abstract:
The Lever Action Wheelchair designed by Art Center College of Design student Douglas Clarkson won a gold award in the student work category of the 1992 I.D. Annual Design Review. The Lever Action Wheelchair is operated by pumping levers with the arms in a movement similar to rowing. It requires less power than that required to push a wheelchair and is affordable to persons who cannot afford motor-driven models. It travels faster, has an improved braking mechanism that eliminates injuries to the user and folds into a compact package for storage.

Operator reaction to The Bike includes praise for its strength, simplicity of use and smooth action, but the LED was criticised for being too basic and displaying too much information. The Bike is priced at 2,475 pounds sterling.
