Chicago Mercantile Exchange is in the midst of an unprecedented transition when it made the giant leap from a member-owned institution controlled by those who held seats on the exchange to a publicly traded company. It is the first to go public and the most triumphant and their purpose is to create value for the shareholders and increase the value of the stock.
