Article Abstract:

The Cook County Board voted unanimously in February 2005 to pass a budget of about $3billion after months of wrangling and debate, which would mean implying new tax on restaurants and hotels. However, Cook County's feudal lords are quick to defend their own budgets, while accusing others for the shortcomings.

Fat city?

Article Abstract:

Even though Chicago city is trying to trim the ranks of workers, the city payroll analysis shows that it is heavily layered with many supervisors having political connections. The reasons for appointing so many supervisors for a single job and its effect on the city's budget are discussed.
