The new $618 million, 1.1-million-square-foot 21-gate international terminal is set to open at O'Hare International Airport by May 1993. International air traffic has been growing steadily for Chicago, and the new facility may make the city a major global hub.

Elevated hopes: a rebuilt Green Line, scheduled to roll in late March, promises improved service and neighborhood revival

The Chicago Transit Authority has spent $350 million and two years on renovating the dilapidated Green Line. The agency promises the work will cut commuting times in half. The project is spurring development in the West Side area.
