A trehalose metabolic enzyme controls inflorescence architecture in maize

Article Abstract:

RAMOSA3 (RA3) genes were shown to encode a trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase expressed in discrete domains subtending axillary inflorescence meristems. It was proposed that RA3 regulated inflorescence branching by modification of a sugar signal that moved into axillary meristems, which supported the hypothesis that RAS itself is a transcriptional regulatory function.

The role of barren stalk1 in the architecture of maize

Article Abstract:

A report on the isolation of the barren stalk1 gene, which encodes a non-canonical basic helix-loop-helix protein required for the initiation of all lateral meristems in maize, is presented. It concluded that two haplotypes entered the maize gene pool from its wild progenitor, teosnite, suggesting that barren stalk1 was selected for agronomic purposes.

Genetics of gene expression surveyed in maize, mouse and man

Article Abstract:

Genetic screens of mouse, maize and human transcriptomes are compared by considering gene expression as quantative traits. A gene expression linked with obesity is identified. Includes diagrams.
