Assessment strategies in the contests of male crickets, Acheta domesticus (L.)

Article Abstract:

The morphology and behavior of contest winners and losers in male Acheta domesticus (L.) crickets were analyzed to determine the components of resource-holding potential (RHP) or fighting ability. Analysis of male cricket morphology and behavior indicated the ability of crickets to utilize body size and fighting tactics in resolving fighting contests. Furthermore, information concerning the cricket's stamina was based on the energetic costs and sequence of fighting tactics that were performed by each opponent.
