Albert E. Darlow, 1899-1966: a brief biography

Article Abstract:

Albert E. Darlow, one of the most prominent figures in the field of animal husbandry, died on Oct 22, 1966, of heart failure. He left behind a career which spanned almost 50 years. He graduated with an MS for Animal Husbandry three years after joining the Animal Husbandry faculty of Oklahoma A and M College. He served as judging team coach to W.L. Blizzard for 10 years beginning 1924. He published several articles on livestock feeding and breeding and initiated work for the prominent animal nutrition group of later years. He became president of the American Society of Animal Science in 1954. The highest honor was given to Darlow when his portrait was hung in the Saddle and Sirloin Club in 1958.

Charles Roy Henderson, 1911:1989: a brief biography

Article Abstract:

Scientist Charles Roy Henderson has left a remarkable imprint in animal science through his valuable contributions and discoveries. He was born on Apr 1, 1911 in Page County, IA. He received his master of science in animal nutrition and doctoral degrees from the Iowa State. He accepted teaching positions at the Ohio University and Cornell University during which he made landmark discoveries such as the mixed model equations and matrix algebra. These became the bases of genetic evaluation systems for genetic variances and covariances. He died on Mar 14, 1989.

M.E. Ensminger, 1908-1998: A brief biography

Article Abstract:

Marion E. (Gene) Ensminger was a legendary scientist who dedicated his life to animal agriculture. He was instrumental in establishing ag-tech schools for organizing and conducting scientific and cultural exchanges in agriculture technology. He published extensively with 22 books and over 500 articles to his credit.
