An IRF8-binding promoter variant and AIRE control CHRNA1 promiscuous expression in thymus

Article Abstract:

A mechanism the controlling thymic transcription of a prototypic tissue-restricted human auto-antigen gene, CHRNA1 is described. Findings revealed a critical function of autoimmune regulator (AIRE) and the interferon signalling pathway in regulating quantitative expression of this auto-antigen in the thymus.

Structural basis of West Nile virus neutralization by a therapeutic antibody

Article Abstract:

West Nile virus is a mosquito-borne flavivirus closely related to the human epidemic-causing dengue, yellow fever and Japanese encephalitis virus. The mechanism of neutralization by the E16 monoclonal antibody that specifically binds receptor-binding domain III (DIII) is investigated.

Herpesvirus latency confers symbiotic protection from bacterial infection

Article Abstract:

Herpesvirus latency persists for the life of the host and it is shown to confer a surprising benefit to the host. Herpesvirus latency might sculpt the immune response to self and environment antigens through establishment of a polarized cytokine environment.
