Astronomical pacing of methane release in the Early Jurassic period

Article Abstract:

High-resolution organic carbon-isotope data from well-preserved mudrocks in Yorkshire, UK that demonstrates the carbon-isotope excursion occurred in three abrupt stages is reported. The results provide strong evidence that methane release proceeded in three rapid pulses and that these pulses are controlled by astronomically forced changes in climate, superimposed upon longer-term global warming.

Exceptional astronomical seeing conditions above Dome C in Antarctica

Article Abstract:

The observations of the wintertime seeing from Dome C, a high point on the Antarctic plateau at latitude of 75 degree South is reported. The results observed were remarkable, the median seeing is 0.27 arcsec, and below 0.15 arcsec 25 per cent of the time and it is concluded that Dome C is the best ground based site to develop a new astronomical observatory.
