Anomalies in French blood inquiry over 'misleading' report
Article Abstract:
Michel Lucas, former head of France's General Inspectorate for Social Affairs (IGAS), believes that IGAS staff were aware in the mid-1980s that blood products were contaminated with HIV. IGAS subsequently undertook vital investigations into the contamination of blood products. Lucas denies that IGAS was at fault, and rejects claims that the involvement of IGAS affected his later management of inquiries into blood product contamination. He feels that IGAS was misled by the National Health Laboratory and the Directorate General of Health.

Tougher EU copyright rules come under fire
Article Abstract:
The European Science Foundation (ESF) believes that if European copyright laws are left unchanged, the competitiveness of European research could be harmed. A directive proposing changes is to be debated by the European parliament. There are concerns that the directive lacks a general exception for private study and research, and warnings that if the market is too tightly regulated, access to information and information products could be restricted.
