Battered Bruins; humans and black bears face off in Arkansas

Article Abstract:

Cooperation between the management of the White River National Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas and surrounding neighbors will likely help to sustain and manage the local black bear population. Previous hunting and land use patterns of the timber and agriculture industries have substantially reduced the available black bear population and habitat space, respectively. Despite occasional sightings of naturally inquisitive bears, habitat space appears to be adequate for the remaining bears.
