British forensic science in the dock: Unregulated forensic science practices have led to a spect of wrongful convictions. There are too many 'cowboy' practitioners whose services can be bought at a price
Article Abstract:
Forensic science in the UK has seen both scientific and ethical standards fall, and forensic evidence is often handled badly by the police and lawyers in court. The Forensic Science Services (FSS) used to be part of the police department, but was given agency status in 1989 and is now funded solely by case work undertaken by the police and others. It has to compete with others in the industry, which is totally unregulated. The Forensic Science Working Group has recommended that a Registration Council to maintain a register of forensic scientists be established.

Time to ban British boxing
Article Abstract:
The UK government should ban boxing as the serious and lethal damage it causes boxers reflects badly on a supposedly enlightened society. There have been more than 300 serious boxing related injuries from 1945 to 1993. According to the supporters of boxing, it is a voluntary activity and a legislation banning boxing would restrict people's freedom, forcing the sport underground or overseas. But boxing should be carried out privately and not in the public sphere.
