Climate report 'subject to scientific cleansing.'

Article Abstract:

The Global Climate Coalition (GCC), funded by US business, has criticized the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) report published in 1996 in an effort to discredit the panel's findings on human effects on environment. According to GCC, certain portions of a chapter were removed or changed after peer reviewal. Ben Santer, the author of the chapter, says that the changes had been approved by IPCC. Sir John Houghton, co-chair of IPCC's working group, says that authors can change their text and the working group does not have to approve the entire technical data.

Climate report cuts call for strong policies

Article Abstract:

The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change modified its draft document on policy recommendations under pressure from the US government and oil-exporting countries. A call for 'strong policy measures' to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and a timetable for the stabilization of carbon dioxide output were taken out of the report. Nine suggestions of how countries could reduce emissions were also omitted. Environmentalists praised the overall report but criticized the omissions in the revision.

World Bank fund finds allies and sceptics

Article Abstract:

International finance organization World Bank's worldwide anti-global warming funding scheme, Global Carbon Initiatives, has been criticised by some nations and supported by others. Critics believe World Bank is not the right institution to manage the 100 million US dollar project. They say it may have a biased approach and favour Western participants. Some nations support the scheme's concept but do not want the World Bank's involvement.
