Coherence and single-particle excitations in the high-temperature superconductors

Article Abstract:

Fluctuations of the superconducting order parameter are predicted to be large in the high-Tc copper oxides, due to short coherence length or large penetration depth. There are several explanations for the formation of the pseudogap in the underdoped regime. The nature of the condensation is directly tested by comparing two types of determination of the gap, sensitive to Deltap and Deltac. The continuous increase of Deltap in the underdoped regime may be explained by both local pairs and the stripe model. Deltap may also be unrelated to a pairing amplitude, but the existence of two energy scales is well established in the underdoped regime.

Limits on differential rotation of the inner core from an analysis of the Earth's free oscillations

Article Abstract:

A method to analyse free oscillations insensitive to earthquake source, location and mechanism, has been used to constrain the differential rotation. Inner-core differential rotation was found to be essentially zero during the past 20 years, indicating that the inner core is likely to be gravitational locked to the Earth's mantle.
