Demographic trends and community stability in a montane amphibian assemblage

Article Abstract:

A long-term study of a montane amphibian community in Penalara Natural Park (Central Spain) is conducted to analyze population trends recording the larval density and number of ponds used for reproduction of nine species in two different time periods. The conservation of endemic species with restricted distribution areas is recommended for consideration on priority basis.

Disruption of a Plant-Lizard Seed Dispersal System and Its Ecological Effects on a Threatened Endemic Plant in the Balearic Islands

Article Abstract:

The article demonstrates how the introduction of a species can generate the extinction of others, using the introduction of carnivorous mammals on the Spanish island of Minorca as an illustration. The mammals caused the extinction of a lizard that played a key role in seed dispersal of a plant, which is now experiencing declines.

Effects of Introduced Salmonids on a Montane Population of Iberian Frogs

Article Abstract:

Research on the impact of fish introduction on endemic Iberian frog populations in central Spain shows that frog distribution is primarily affected by fish invasion geography, rather than the species involved. Implications for conservation are discussed.
