Differences in flight characteristics of pen-reared and wild prairie-chickens

Article Abstract:

Flight characteristics and predator avoidance behaviors of pen-reared Attwater's prairie-chickens (APC) and those of a sister subspecies, wild greater prairie-chickens are compared. The introduction of pen-reared APC into the wild to supplement existing populations has met with marginal success.

Survival, movements, and reproduction of released captive-reared Attwater's prairie chicken

Article Abstract:

The changes of acclimation period, date of release, transmitter style, and release habitat on post-released survival of Attwater's prairie-chicken (APC) was evaluated. The findings suggested that the movements and monthly ranges for juvenile males and females were similar to those of wild APC.

Distribution and abundance of endangered Florida Key deer on outer islands

Article Abstract:

A study was undertaken to ascertain methods to determine the distribution and numbers of endangered Florida Key deer in areas comprising of the outer islands. Results showed that the digital infrared-triggered cameras were a practical method to observe the presence of deer in the area.
