Effects of egg and hatchling harvest on American alligators in Florida

Article Abstract:

Alligator and other crocodilian eggs are commonly harvedted for mean and skin production. The impact of harvesting eggs on a population of wild allugators in Florida has been examined. There was an increase in the denisity of the alligator population in all locations, and there was an increase in subadult densities in areas where eggs were harvested, while numbers of juveniles were stable. Nest-building increased in some locations. Harvesting 50% of eggs has not affected numbers of adults and subadults.

Monitoring and managing the harvest of tegu lizards in Paraguay

Article Abstract:

The harvest monitoring and management program of tegu lizard in Paraguay, which is the most exploited reptiles in the world, as a model for commercially exploited reptile management is studied. The findings that there are no indicators of local population decline and no chronological trend of increased take or decreasing size that would indicate over harvest, support the observation that tegu lizards are withstanding the harvest in Paraguay.
