Energy department revises terms of Venter deal after complaints

Article Abstract:

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the UK Wellcome Trust, participants in the Human Genome Project, have recently scotched a draft agreement whereby Celera and the Department of Energy (DoE) would exchange sequence information. The NHGRI claims that DoE scientists would have access to data from Celera which was not available publicly, and this would have violated the international consensus that sequence data should be immediately release into the public domain. A new agreement is expected to be negotiated.
