Epidemic or false alarm?
Article Abstract:
A link between a new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakb disease (vCJD) and the epidemic of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was found to depend on the temporal and geographical association between them in whole populations. No modelling study should be attempted on a mere 14 cases of a new variant of vCJD that have so far been confirmed in the UK. However, since the incubation period of vCJD is measured in years, many feel that it is too early to tell if vCJD has the potential to become an epidemic in the near future.
