Europe's young researchers seek proper rewards
Article Abstract:
Britain and the Netherlands are the preferred places for young researchers to work, according to a survey. However the survey shows that in all parts of Europe, young researchers believe they doe not always receive full credit for their work. Many researchers also feel underpaid during their post-doctoral careers, particularly women. Young researchers in Spain and Italy complain that they do not have enough freedom to explore new ideas and to question policies affecting their research. Many also complain that they are not given enough time to complete research.

Reactor may switch to low-grade uranium
Article Abstract:
The controversial new FRMII research reactor being built in Germany to run on weapons-grad highly enriched uranium (HEU) may be converted to low enriched uranium (LEU) by 2008. There have been protests about the use of HEU in research reactors, but developing suitable LEU fuel for research reactors will take seven years, and proliferation problems concerning the interim use of HEU have to be seriously considered.
