Factors influencing wood duck use of natural cavities
Article Abstract:
The nest site selection, nest success and use of cavities by wood ducks, racoons and fox squirrels were investigated to determine the relationship between site availability and survival rates. Other factors which were studied include distance to nearing water and density of suitable cavities. The experiment, which revealed racoon predation to be the chief threat to the wood duck's survival, was conducted between 1984 and 1985 at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge in Indiana.

Condition indices of live-trapped American black ducks and mallards
Article Abstract:
A comparison is presented between American black duck and mallard duck populations from Ohio's Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, focusing on species energy reserves that may impact survival. Findings included higher condition indices for adult black duck males than for adult mallard males, while juvenile black duck females demonstrated improved condition indices at greater rates than juvenile mallard females.
