Field experiments in animal behaviour: methods and ethics
Article Abstract:
Field experiments are better than laboratory experiments since manipulations are done within the presumed natural context. However, these experiments also face ethical problems such as disruption of the animal's environment. The persistent and unnecessary stress brought to animals as a consequence may be minimized if pilot investigations are done, animals are adequately monitored and follow-up assessment studies are taken up to determine the extent of such manipulations.

Energetics of mound-tending behaviour in the malleefowl, Leipoa ocellata (Megapodiidae)
Article Abstract:
A study on the energy consumption of malleefowls during mound-tending behavior was conducted using comparisons of energy consumption of birds in the field and birds on a treadmill task in a laboratory setting. Results indicate that the overall consumption of energy of malleefowls during mound-tending behavior is more thanthe energy cost of incubation by birds for the same time period.
