Focus on the Fermi surface

Article Abstract:

Certain manganese oxides exhibit an intriguing effect known as 'colossal magnetoresistance'. Below a certain critical temperature, these materials become ferromagnetic showing the spontaneous alignment of electron spins that accounts for the magnetic attraction of materials such as iron and this is accompanied by a drastic reduction in electrical resistance.

Stain-induced metal-insulator phase coexistence in perovskite manganites

Article Abstract:

A tool for tuning the electronic properties in materials, due to the coexistence of a distinct metallic and insulating electronic phases, within the same sample of a perovskite manganite is found. A theoretical understanding for the existence of the inhomogeneities is sought.

The elasticity of the MgSiO3 post-perovskite phase in the Earth's lowermost mantle

Article Abstract:

The structure, stability and elasticity of the EarthEs lower mantle, which dominantly consists of MgSiO3 perovskite is calculated. It is reported that the post-perovskite phase of MgSiO3 is isostructural with UFeS3, UFeSe3, ThMnTe3, ThMgTe3, UMnSe3, and ThMnSe3.
