In vivo analysis of quiescent adult neural stem cells responding to Sonic hedgehog
Article Abstract:
An in vivo genetic fate-mapping strategy, using a Gli1 (GLI-Kruppel family member) as a sensitive readout of sonic hedgehog (Shh) activity is adopted, to systematically mark and follow the fate of Shh-responding cells in the adult mouse forebrain. Results reveal that initially, only a small population of cells responds to Shh in regions undergoing neurogenesis.

At the root of brain cancer
Article Abstract:
Brain cancers are among the most devastating tumours in humans and are often rapidly fatal despite aggressive treatments. A small subpopulation of brain-cancer stem cells is identified in humans, and they have the exclusive ability to drive tumour formation, and could prove an effective target for therapies.

To be and not to be
Article Abstract:
The molecular basis of asymmetric division of stem cells is investigated. The model for probabilistic mechanism of self-renewal of stereotypical stem cells, with their predictable pattern of division is discussed.
