Insects as chemosensors of humans and crops

Article Abstract:

The molecular and cellular biology of insect olfaction and taste has offered opportunities for developing new means of pest control. The new strategies based on a molecular understanding of insect chemosensation might contribute to the control of insects that cause massive damage to human health and agriculture across the world.

Mosquito receptor for human-sweat odorant

Article Abstract:

The main focus is to show that the Anopheles gambiae protein, a female-specific member of a family of putative odorant receptors, responds to a component of human sweat. Female Anopheles mosquitoes locate their human hosts primarily through olfactory cues.

Odorant receptor gene choice is reset by nuclear transfer from mouse olfactory sensory nuerons

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that odorant receptor (OR) gene choice is controlled by DNA arrangements in olfactory sensory neurons (OSN's), is tested. It is observed that M71 gene choice is not connected by genomic alterations.
