Distance and the presentation of visual stimuli to birds
Article Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to determine the effects of visual stimuli distance on hens (Gallus gallus domesticus). Discrimination levels were good when real and artificial visual stimuli were presented at 5-25 cm. Furthermore, most of the hens tested exhibited 100% correct color discrimination responses when presented with visual stimuli they had previously seen. Results indicate that real visual stimuli can be substituted with artificial ones over certain distances.

Colour perception and the use of video playback experiments in animal behaviour
Article Abstract:
Color perception of animals is one of the limitations in using video playback in animal behavior experiments. Most animals respond to video images differently than to natural stimuli because animals have different photoreceptor cells and video systems are produced based on human visual processing. However, it is possible to adjust video systems to create colors for nonhuman viewers.
