Letter from Kenya (update on Kenyan Wildlife Service's elephant conservation efforts)
Article Abstract:
The greatest threat to Kenya's African elephants is conflict with their human neighbors over farm crops and habitat. The Elephant Program of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has instituted projects to alleviate the problem. The KWS has relocated elephants from Mwea National Reserve to Tsavo National Park, which can accommodate a larger population. Other KWS projects include training game scouts to resolve problems more quickly, organizing informational workshops for local people, and helping villagers manage their own wildlife and establish tourist facilities to generate revenue.

Feeling the heat: wildlife conservation in the face of global climate change
Article Abstract:
The negative impacts of climate change on North American plant and animal species are explored, along with suggestions on how to mitigate them. Topics include species' inability to migrate to safer habitats, such as crossing roads or other encroached regions, and attempts to establish new habitats through corridor land reserve initiatives.

Too soon for peregrine de-listing?
Article Abstract:
The population of peregrine falcons in the US has increased to 1600 breeding pairs in 1999, up from 324 known pairs in 1975. Some conservationists say it is too early to take the falcon off the US Fish and Wildlife Service's Endangered Species List because they rely heavily on human assistance for survival.
