NIH resolves dispute on cancer gene patent
Article Abstract:
The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) announces two scientists from the National Institute of Environmental Health Science as coinventors of the breast cancer gene BRCA1. This announcement resolves a longstanding dispute on the cancer gene patent between NIH, and the biotechnology company Myriad Genetics and the University of Utah. The scientists newly listed as coinventors were omitted from the original patent applications of the US Patents and Trademarks Office.
