Possible environmental factors underlying amphibian decline in Eastern Puerto Rico: Analysis of U.S. government data archives

Article Abstract:

Changes in environmental conditions through satellite imagery and air chemistry from a single NASA aircraft flight across the Caribbean showing patches of pollutants in the lower troposphere is examined to study whether environmental changes are the reasons for possible amphibian decline in Puerto Rico. The data presents no evidence to point that the changes in environmental conditions are directly responsible for the sharp decline in amphibian decline in Puerto Rico.

Relationship between coefficient of inbreeding and parasite burden in endangered gazelles

Article Abstract:

The effect of inbreeding depression on parasite infection in three species of endangered Gazelles is studied. The studies suggest that high levels of inbreeding may make individuals more susceptible to parasitism, even under favorable environmental conditions and hence this factor should be taken in to account by those managing endangered species.

Application of genetic bottleneck testing to the investigation of amphibian declines: A case study with natterjack toads

Article Abstract:

The application of a genetic test for bottlenecks that distinguishes natural oscillations and true amphibian population declines are described. Results indicate that the genetic test identified bottlenecks and is considered useful in demonstrating whether amphibian declines have occurred, where long-term demographic time series are not available.
