Primate work faces German veto
Article Abstract:
The issues related to protest from animal-right activists against the brain research work, which involves placing electrodes in monkeys' brains by a neuroscientist, is reported. German scientists have condemned a parliamentary decision to stop primate experiments calling them unacceptable political interference with the freedom to conduct research.

Jurgen Graeser from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Potsdam, Germany, is the first Westerner to be invited for an eight-month Russian-led voyage on a drifting ice floe to the North Pole. He has described his role in this expedition and also the common problems that might be expected while on a drifting ice floe.

Futuristic center under fire from German science council:
Article Abstract:
The Center of Advanced European Studies and Research (Caesar) is established in Bonn, to do innovative work in a futuristic setting, but the center has failed to meet expectations. The Wissenschaftsrat, Germany's science council has recommended to appoint an independent commission to restructure the center.
