Prospects for a vaccine against the Hepatitis C virus

Article Abstract:

The chances of producing a vaccine to combat Hepatitis C infection has improved, with the discovery that some humans and chimpanzees have natural immunity to infection by Hepatitis C virus. The immune system of some infected people can spontaneously clear the virus, whereas in others antiviral drugs, it works partly in the treatment of the virus.

Cheaper approaches to flu divide researchers

Article Abstract:

Scientists are looking at a different approach for developing drugs that modulate the immune system, as Tamiflu and other antivirals are very expensive and difficult to manufacture. They are studying joint treatments with immune modulators and antivirals instead of using immune drugs when viral is high.

Mechanism of action of interferon and ribavirin in treatment of Hepatitis C

Article Abstract:

A combination of interferon- alpha with the antiviral drug ribavirin is currently used in the treatment of Hepatitis C. This is however effective only in a fraction of patients and is weighed down with adverse effects.
