UK nuclear physicists wonder if there is life after Daresbury
Article Abstract:
British nuclear structure physicists are hoping to sustain active research after the Nuclear Structure Facility closes in Apr 1993. The continuance of British research is essential to persuading the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) to locate a new European research center at ISIS, a pulsed neutron source at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. SERC's new facility will be completed by 1997. However, the British are facing competition from the GANIL heavy ion accelerator in Caen, France.

Daresbury senses victory in battle for UK synchrotron
Article Abstract:
There is growing speculation that the UK's next generation synchrotron, Diamond, will be situated at Daresbury Laboratory near Manchester, England. There has been high-profile campaigning by local trade unions, MPs and scientists to bring Diamond to Daresbury, which has the current UK Synchrotron Radiation Source. The other possible location for the synchrotron would be Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford, England.
