Subramanyan Chandrasekhar (1910-95)
Article Abstract:
The renowned theoretical astrophysicist, Subramanyan Chandrasekhar, passed away on Aug. 21, 1995. Born in Lahore on Oct. 19, 1910, he graduated from Presidency College, Madras in 1930. Better known as Chandra, he did his Ph.D at Cambridge University under the guidance of Ralph H. Fowler. Chandra received the 1983 Nobel Prize for Physics for establishing the upper limit of the mass of white dwarf star. He worked at Yerkes observatory, a part of the University of Chicago, till his death.

Article Abstract:
Donald E. Osterbrock, astrophysicist and historian of astronomy, made important contributions in the field of internal structure and physics of stars such as Sun, the physical conditions of the gas surrounding many hot stars in the Galaxy. The research on active galactic nucleus (AGN) dominated most of his career and he has written a classic textbook on AGN.
