The Near Extinction of Two Large European Predators: Super Specialists Pay a Price
Article Abstract:
The inability to transition to alternative prey is identified as the primary reason behind the severe population declines of the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) and the Eurasian lynx (Lynx europaeus). The co-evolution of these two species resulted in dependency on the rabbit as prey. Conventional conservation efforts are unlikely to help; alternative methods are proposed.

Remote Forest Refugia for Fijian Wildlife
Article Abstract:
Research shows that remote forest areas in Fiji assist in the protection of native species from predation threats by non-native mongooses and rats. Data from forests near urban habitats and agricultural areas were compared with that taken from over five kilometers from forest edges.

Conservation Biology of Caecilian Amphibians
Article Abstract:
Caecilian amphibian population declines and extinction risks are evaluated; possible causes include pollution, scientific collecting, chytridiomycosis, and habitat loss. Findings emphasize the need for more research.
